Our Story...
The horticulture business is deeply rooted in the Marshall/ Sailer family. Ann and William Marshall (grandparents of current owner) originally owned and operated their nursery business in Eden Prairie. The 1930's greenhouses were tucked into the bluffs, just across from the Minnesota river bottoms. Using many of the same techniques mastered in today's growing, the couple sold fresh cut flowers, vegetables and potted plants.
The tradition evolved in further generations, when Peggy (Marshall) and Mark Sailer founded Marshall's Gardens and Sailer's Greenhouses. The couple started their venture in Inver Grove Heights, growing a few flats of annuals, a handful of unique perennials and a selection of hanging baskets. Staying true to their Eden Prairie heritage, the Marshall/ Sailer family worked with longtime family friend and business owner Harry Rogers to sell their product on his property. Three days a week they would row flats on the front lawn of Rogers Farm Stand on Eden Prairie Road. After Harry passed, the family bought the Rogers property and the location officially became Marshall's. The family has continued to hold up the long-standing tradition of quality and integrity started by Harry Rogers.
As the community grew, so did the business. The family eventually moved to Shakopee to accommodate their expanding operation. Originally the greenhouses built in Scott Count where just used for growing purposes, but it eventually opened to the public. In 1998 the second retail location, Sailer's Greenhouse officially opened their doors.
Whether your an infatic gardener or the casual shopper, Sailer's Greenhouse and Marshall's Gardens offers dramatically different shopping experiences to accommodate what you're looking for.
Marshall's Gardens...
The evolution of Eden Prairie hasn't taken away any of the charm at Marshall's Gardens. The quaintness of the original farm market is preserved in the middle of suburban bliss. The location and casual atmosphere makes it truly the "neighborhood garden center". The unpaved sidewalks and tall trees create a sanctuary perfect for a quick "pick-up" or a relaxing afternoon stroll.
Sailer's Greenhouse...
Sailer's Greenhouse is the perfect niche for the garden enthuses. Unlike many other garden centers, we are the grower and the retailer. Customers can shop for plants right in the greenhouses they are sown and grown. Not only can you see the work and passion behind each plant, you can spend hours looking for the perfect plant "grown just for you". Getting lost in the acres of greenhouses is the perfect cure for Spring fever!
Weather you shop in Eden Prairie or Shakopee, you're sure to see friends at both. To ensure quality and commitment, we feel strongly that each of our garden centers should be filled with family and friends. Currently, owners daughter Nikki runs Marshall's Gardens, while Peggy and Mark continue to expand Sailer's Greenhouse.
